Preparation counts when it comes to teachers. But is also important for students. Giving students a chance to prepare can revolutionize a class.
How many times have you asked a simple question like, “What did you do this weekend” to a blinking and horrified audience? I lost count a long time ago.
A teacher and I have figured something out though. Do you know what it is? We’ve found that if we give the students about 2 minutes to write down a response to this open question it changes everything.
We go from pulling teeth to actually enjoying some free talk time.
Plus, it can create a good jumping off point for more conversation. We just keep coming back to this idea of preparation.
When students feel prepared they are ready to have conversations. Without it, more often than not, they freeze. Why not give them the chance to shine?
All it takes is a couple of minutes.
